MADDELA, Quirino, June 19 (PIA) -- A total of 3,713 families and 1,624 students in the municipalities of Maddela and Nagtipunan who were affected by typhoons Pedring and Quiel in September last year were benefited by the rehabilitation projects of the Philippine Red Cross.
The projects which were recently turned over to the beneficiaries by PRC Chairman Richard Gordon include rehabilitation of health facilities and classrooms, health equipment and supplies, community health education, and basic disaster management trainings.
Said projects were implemented by the PRC in six months, from November 30, 2011 to May 2011 and were funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO) office of the European Union, the world's biggest donor of humanitarian aid, through the assistance of the German and Spanish Red Cross.
In the turn-over ceremonies, Gordon assured that PRC will continue assisting the needy sectors. He also advised the beneficiaries to do their part and be active members and volunteers of the PRC.
Mayors Renato Ylanan of Maddela and Nieverose Meneses of Nagtipunan took turns in thanking the PRC for choosing their municipalities as beneficiaries of the projects. They assured that the projects will be taken care of and sustained.
The beneficiaries were Dipintin, Diduyon, Balligui, Sto.Tomas, San Salvador, Villa Hermosa and Sta. Maria of Maddela and Disimunal, Sangbay, Dipantan, San Dionisio, Asaclat and Landingan of Nagtipunan.
The following schools were also benefited by the projects: Balluigi Elementary School, Balluigi High School, Diduyon ES, Dipintin HS, Sto. Tomas ES, San Salvador ES, Villa Hermosa Norte ES, Mariano Gadingan ES, Sta Maria ES and Maddela South Central School of Maddela; Dipantan ES, Sangbay Integrated School, Disimungal IS, Scala IS, Asaclat IS, and Landingan IS in Nagtipunan.
