LAGAWE, Ifugao, Sept. 20 (PIA) --The Japan Red Cross (JRC) recently completed the delivery of materials for the construction of houses destroyed by typhoons Pedring and Quiel last year.
Provincial Red Cross Ifugao Chapter Head Randy Blanco received the materials consisting of concrete posts, galvanized iron sheets, and other aggregate housing materials as shelter assistance of the JRC to the 43 families rendered homeless by past calamities in Banaue, Kiangan, Lagawe, and Lamut.
According to Blanco, the materials for each family cost P70,000-80,000 which is enough to build them a 4 meters by 6 meters home with one bedroom, a sala, kitchen, bathroom and toilet as designed in the standardized housing plan of the project for easy and faster erection of their new homes.
He said that the houses to be built are durable enough to last from 10 to 15 years after construction as it is composed of half concrete and half wood and plywood materials that will at least give decent and comfortable shelter to the homeless typhoon victims.
Blanco related that the initial delivery made last month were used to construct the model houses each in the respective barangays of the four municipalities where the other family beneficiaries can easily pattern their houses.
According to the standard plan of the designed shelter homes, each house can be constructed within 10 to 15 days by a master carpenter, a mason, and some helpers which is the counterpart of the beneficiaries estimated to cost about P7,000.
Blanco added that additional shelter homes with a different design was proposed for 19 more beneficiaries who are also victims of past typhoons in the far-flung barangay of Banao, Banaue.
He said they cannot be covered by the ongoing project involving this kind of design and materials because of the remoteness and distance of the place that will make the cost of delivering the construction materials so expensive and impractical. (JDP/DBC-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
